When Kim Henninger and Shawn Parke were tapped by Writer/Director Claire Carré and Writer/Producer Charles Spano to score the indie Sci Fi film Embers, not a frame had been shot. With the screenplay, a mood reel and concepts such as memory, forgetting and disintegration to guide them, the duo immediately went to work.

They wandered the wet streets of Portland, Oregon recording the sounds of the city. Cars, rain, wind chimes, the sound of a piano pouring out of a neighbor’s home, all of these things represented the memories that would be broken, bent, distorted, destroyed and would ultimately become the thick organic bed for the film’s mostly orchestral score.

Kindling collects these building blocks that were recorded over the year and a half of Embers’ production into an album that stands on its own as a work of high concept experimental music.
